Ogun State Police have uncovered the lifeless body of an unidentified man, known locally as “Mosquito,” a member of the Aiye confraternity, along Ijagun Road in Ijebu-Ode. The discovery was made amidst ongoing investigations into a violent cult clash in the area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, the body was found after police received a tip-off regarding a supremacy battle between rival cult groups. “Upon receiving the information, the DPO of Ijebu-Ode Division, along with his team, swung into action,” Odutola confirmed in a statement released on Monday from Abeokuta, the state capital.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers discovered the body of an unidentified middle-aged man bearing signs of a brutal attack, including machete wounds and gunshot injuries. Odutola also revealed that the victim’s left hand had been severed and taken by his assailants.
The Police PRO stated, “One of the members of the Aiye cult group identified the body as ‘Mosquito’ before the corpse was evacuated.” As evidence, six expended cartridges were recovered from the scene.
The body has since been transferred to the Ijebu-Ode State Hospital, where Mosquito was pronounced dead and his remains were placed in the morgue.
In response to the gruesome discovery, the Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
“The command is determined to arrest the fleeing suspects and to unravel the pattern of cutting off the left hand from deceased victims,” Odutola added.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to bring those responsible to justice and curb the violence associated with cult clashes in the region.
