There seems to be a major crack in the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as more chieftains of the party are resigning their membership ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The latest is Mrs Ibim Semenatari, a stalwart of the party and an ally of former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi.
Semenatari, who was the Commissioner for Information when Amaechi was governor, made her resignation known in a letter dated July 9 and addressed to the Chairman, Ward 5, Okirika Local Government Area.
She said: “I write to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from today. I appreciate the friendship, camaraderie and opportunities that this platform has provided me to serve my state, region and country even as I wish the party well”.
The former acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) was said to have been at loggerheads with Amaechi since she was removed as head of the interventionist agency.
Semenatari was also said to have supported Vice-President Yemi Osibanjo instead of Amaechi during the race for the 2023 presidential ticket of the APC.
Her resignation came a few days after the exit of two other stalwarts of the party, Hon. Golden Chioma and Dr Dawari George for various reasons.
