In this VOX POP conducted by JANET ADEYEMI, Nigerians in various walks of life express readiness to make themselves available to take the COVID 19 vaccine expected in the country soon.
According to them, the vaccine will help to bring down the tension that the disease has created while businesses will go on smoothly in the country. But some others too are still in doubt about the efficacy and side effects of the vaccine. Excerpts:
Adekunle:
I will not take the vaccine, the variant is now numerous. People who took it are having stroke, some are developing new illnesses. I will rather take precautions and obey the COVID-19 guidelines than take the vaccine.
David:
I will most definitely take it as I do not subscribe to the conspiracy theories being fed Nigerians. Based on the knowledge I have gathered, the vaccine protects one from getting infected and I believe getting vaccinated is the right step towards restoring normalcy to the world.
Goodnews:
Yes, I will take the vaccine because I feel it’s just like the normal vaccines we take while growing up; not because we had any disease but it serves as a precautionary measure.
Gbenga:
I won’t take it because the vaccine could be deadly, and it alters DNA.
Brian:
I will take the vaccine if I have access to it. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
Oluwaseun:
I will get vaccinated hopefully, because I don’t want to contract COVID-19. Prevention is better than cure. So, I will take it.
Oluwafemi:
I’m not sure the vaccine distribution would go round. Also, I won’t take it because I don’t see the reason. I am yet to see anyone who has the virus in my community.
Adenike:
I will get the vaccine because it’s a cure against COVID-19, and it’s just like taking immunisation. The United Kingdom and America have been vaccinating people and they are fine. So, I will take it.
Damilola:
I am scared of the fact that the vaccine might not really work; so there is no point taking it.
Bankole:
I won’t take it. The people outside Nigeria who have taken it, have there been changes in the rate people die from the pandemic? People are still dying everyday in the US,UK etc.
Eniola:
It depends on how readily available it is, because I can’t queue. I will take it because I feel it must have been tested ok for the government to bring it to the country.
Ehis:
I won’t take it. I am still sceptical as to how a vaccine was discovered within a short time. We have lived with several viruses and diseases for years with no cure. How is covid-19 an exception?
Kelechi:
I will take it, if it does not have side effects.
