A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja and presided over by Justice Binta Nyako, on Wednesday denied the bail application of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice Nyako, in her ruling on the bail application, held the issue of Kanu’s disappearance from Nigeria in 2017, should be determined first before his bail application would be entertained.
Noting that Kanu breached his former bail conditions, Justice Nyako said that until that is heard, his present bail application is immature.
Before the ruling on the bail application, the Federal Government had earlier Wednesday morning, filed a six-count amended charge against Kanu.
The trial judge, however, reprimanded the prosecution for filing the amended charge a few hours before the ruling.
Nyako said she was not aware of the amended charge until she got to the court in the morning, wondering why the prosecution could dump the new amended charge on the court on the morning of the hearing.
