On Monday, Justice A. O. Lajide of the Oyo State High Court adjourned a high-profile case between Iba Gani Adams, the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, and Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (commonly known as Sunday Igboho), to January 14, 2025.
The case, Suit No: M/1006/2024, involves Adams suing Adeyemo for an alleged invasion of privacy.
Adams is demanding ₦5 billion, alleging that Adeyemo unconstitutionally published a private telephone conversation without his consent.
Adams argues that this act severely impacted his esteemed position as the Aare Onakakanfo.
At Monday’s proceedings, Junaid Sanusi, representing Adeyemo, informed the court they had not received any official petition from Adams, explaining, “We only became aware of the case through media reports.”
Sanusi was accompanied by Mr. Olalekan Banjo in court.
In response, R.O. Solahudeen, appearing for Gani Adams’ legal team, stated that all necessary documents would be served to Adeyemo through the court’s bailiff.
Justice Lajide instructed the claimant’s counsel to ensure that all parties receive the pleadings by the next hearing.
Speaking after the proceedings, Sanusi confirmed his client’s readiness to receive the case documents.
He said, “The court adjourned the matter to January 14, by which time all papers will have been served. It’s an affidavit-based application, so the lawyers will present arguments, and the parties themselves do not need to appear in court.”
