There is a tense atmosphere in Gabon following the ouster of the country’s leader, President Ali Bongo by the Gabonese Army.
Bongo, who was put under house arrest after being deposed, is appealing for help.
The deposed leader, who spoke from what he said was his residence, called on his supporters to “raise your voice”.
Army officers who appeared on TV to speak on the incident, said they had taken power.
According to them, they were nullifying last Saturday’s election result that had Bongo declared as the winner amid kicks by the opposition that the exercise was fraudulent.
The officers added that they also arrested one of Mr Bongo’s sons for treason.
This development would bring an end to Bongo’s 55-year hold on power in Gabon.
