Chevron Nigeria Limited, operator of the joint venture between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and CNL (the NNPC/CNL JV), has denied occurrence of oil spill incident in its Bayelsa State facility.
Some fishermen had claimed on Sunday that oil spillage occurred at Funiwa oilfield operated by CNL Koluama, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, affecting waters and fishing activities.
They also claimed that they noticed crude on the waters near the oil facility as helicopters were seen overflying the area.
But a statement on Monday by CNL’s General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Mr Esimaje Brikinn, said that contrary to the reports, there had been no such oil leakage or spill incident at any of their facilities in Bayelsa State.
He, therefore, said any observed crude oil in the environment was not from their operations. “CNL remains committed to protecting people and the environment as well as conducting its operations reliably and efficiently,” Brikinn said.
