CAF Introduces Participation Fees for Preliminary Stages of CAFCL, CAFCC

In a landmark decision, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that, for the first time, teams participating in the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) will receive a participation fee.

Each team involved at this stage will be awarded $50,000 as part of CAF’s initiative to support clubs across the continent.

This decision brings a significant financial boost to clubs involved in the early rounds of these prestigious African competitions, helping to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with travel, logistics, and preparations.

Nigerian clubs are among the beneficiaries of this new policy. Teams representing Nigeria in the preliminary rounds of both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will receive a participation fee of approximately ₦79 million each.

The Nigerian teams that stand to gain from this new initiative include:

  • Rangers International
  • Remo Stars
  • Enyimba
  • El Kanemi Warriors

This development is expected to have a positive impact on the performance of the teams as they compete for glory on the continental stage, providing them with much-needed financial support as they strive to progress further in their respective tournaments.

The move by CAF has been widely welcomed as a step towards ensuring a more equitable distribution of resources among African clubs.
