A bill seeking to establish a federal agency for the conduct of local government elections successfully scaled its first reading in the Senate on Thursday, July 18.
The bill, titled “Local Government Independent Electoral Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024,” was sponsored by Senator Sani Musa (APC – Niger East), who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance.
This proposed legislation aims to create a federal body responsible for overseeing local government elections, ensuring their fairness and integrity across the nation.
