Borno Police Repel Terrorists’ Attack, Recover Explosive Device

The Borno police command has successfully repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Malari village, Konduga Local Government Area.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on November 27 when a police crack team stationed at a forward operating base (FOB) in Malari engaged the terrorists in a gunfight.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Nahum Daso, the police command’s public relations officer, confirmed that the terrorists were forced to retreat into the bush with bullet injuries.

“The police crack team foiled and repelled the attack by BH/ISWAP terrorists.

In the ensuing gun battle, the terrorists were forced to retreat into the bush with bullet injuries,” Daso stated.

An on-the-spot assessment revealed that the terrorists had planted an unexploded grenade inside an abandoned operational Toyota Hilux belonging to a vigilante group.

Daso further explained that the explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) team had been dispatched to the scene.

“The explosive ordnance disposal and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team scanned the area, evacuated the explosive, and rendered it safe,” he said.

Mohammed Yusufu, the Commissioner of Police in Borno, commended the efforts of the police crack team and the EOD-CBRN base 13 in Maiduguri for their swift and efficient response.

“I commend the efforts of the crack team and the EOD-CBRN base 13 in Maiduguri,” Yusufu said.

He also reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of communities, particularly those returning to their ancestral homes.

“We will continue to ensure the safety of all communities as they return to their ancestral homes,” he added.

Yusufu urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, calling on them to report any suspicious objects or activities to the police.

“I urge residents to remain calm and vigilant and to report any suspicious objects or activities to the police using the emergency numbers 08068075581 and 08023473293,” he said.
