Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, who is also the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate, has been called a betrayer by Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark.
In addition, Clark requested that Okowa apologise to Southern Nigeria and his colleagues and resign as the PDP presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku’s running mate.
This was stated in a letter to Okowa that was dated February 2, 2023.
Okowa and Atiku won’t be elected president on a joint ticket, according to Clark, the head of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), who spoke at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja.
He said, “I can therefore understand why you have deliberately and immorally betrayed your colleagues of Southern Nigeria and the people for your own selfish ambition by wanting to land on a safer ground by accepting to serve as running mate to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
“No, by God’s grace your prayer will not be answered. Perhaps, you have forgotten the gravity of the offence you have committed against the people of Southern Nigeria.”
The Delta Governor was also tasked by the Ijaw leader to give an account of how the N250 billion 13 percent derivation budget that the state got was used.
Additionally, he charged that the governor had utilised the funds to build up his town at the expense of the oil-producing areas.
