The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to take the fight against insecurity seriously and end the raging security crisis in the country.
The Christian body said the disposition of the president and the Federal Government towards banditry and killer herdsmen was not enough to put an end to their activities.
In a statement by its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, CAN said, “The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria condemns the killing of about 22 people in Plateau State and calls on the President Muhammadu Buhari and his government to stop paying lip service to the unending killings in the country.”
CAN added that the need to end killings by the criminals goes beyond mere issuing press statements and holding periodical meetings with the security chiefs by the president.
It added that the government must show a strong will to arrest and prosecute the criminals.
CAN said, “We charge the Federal Government to fix the security challenges or throw in the towel. The police and the military should be tasked to wake up to their responsibilities before these criminals turn the country into another Afghanistan.”
