Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the leadership of the People Democratic Party has appealed to former President Goodluck Jonathan not to abandon the party but to be more active in its affairs.
A delegation of the party leadership led by its acting National Chairman, Yemi Akinwonmi, made the appeal on Tuesday, when they visited Jonathan in his Abuja residence.
Among the delegation aside Akinwonmi include Daisi Akintan, former caretaker secretary of the PDP in the South-West and the secretary of ex-officio forum and a member of the National Executive Committee, Mrs Helen Taiwo.
It was learnt that the delegation had visited Jonathan to inform him of the current events within the party and to hear from him the best way ongoing crisis in the PDP will be resolved amicably.
According to a source privy to the meeting, “The South West team were with the former President to appeal to him not to abandon the party.
“They also appealed to him to show more than a passing interest in the affairs of the party by becoming more actively involved in the activities of the party. The former President assured the team that he would not abandon the party.”
