Cherish Daniel Markson, a Bayelsa-born scholar, has been awarded the first prize for her exceptional performance in the three-year BA (Hons) Law with Social Sciences degree program at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom.
Cherish, who emerged as the best law graduate at the prestigious institution, is the daughter of former Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Daniel Iworiso-Markson.
In a congratulatory letter signed by Dr. Margaret O’Brien, Director of Undergraduate Studies at the School of Law, the university praised Cherish for scoring the highest mark among all students in what was described as “the most demanding of all courses.”
She was awarded a prize of £250 for her remarkable achievement.
“You have been awarded First Prize for your performance in the three-year BA (Hons) Law with Social Sciences degree at the University of Warwick. You achieved a Second Class; Higher Division Degree with an overall average of 67.3%. This was the highest mark of all students on this most demanding of courses. A record of your prize-winner status will be added to your HEAR transcript. Your prize of £250 will be paid directly into your bank account,” the letter stated.
Dr. O’Brien further noted that Cherish’s level of commitment and intellect leaves no doubt that she will achieve great things in her post-university life.
The university has also planned a formal reception in her honor after the graduation ceremony on July 19.
Cherish’s academic excellence is not new. Three years ago, as a student at Bridge House College in Lagos, she was awarded the Top in World Award in Law and High Achievement in Sociology by Cambridge International.
She received this prestigious award for her outstanding performance in the Advanced Subsidiary Level Examination for the 2020/2021 series.
Cherish achieved A-stars (A*) in nine IGCSE subjects, including English, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Literature, Business Studies, Economics, History, and ICT.
The international qualifications Cherish attained are recognized globally by top universities and employers, underscoring her wide range of options for future educational and career pursuits.
