The Bayelsa State government, through the Office of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), has begun the distribution of essential drugs and equipment to a select Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the eight local government areas of the state.
Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and Focal Person for SDGs, Dr. Ebiwari Wariowei, made this known in a statement on Wednesday by his Press Secretary, Mr Pereokosifa Buseni.
He said the gesture was sanctioned by Governor Douye Diri as part of the efforts to boost the health and wellbeing of citizens.
Wariowei said the health intervention, coming after a three-day medical outreaches organised in three Senatorial Districts, was in line with goal three if the SDGs which is Heath and Wellbeing.
Wariowei thanked Governor Diri for his commitment towards the attainment of the 17 SDGs, through quick release of funds to carry out interventions in various sectors.
Some jubilant and excited residents of Famgbe, Yenezue-gene and Tombia communities in Yenagoa Local Government Area as well as Twon-Brass and Igweama in Brass LGA came out in their numbers to welcome the State SDGs’ team as medical staff receive the items at the PHCs.
They poured encomiums on Governor Diri and his government for embarking on the laudable programme, saying government had shown that it prioritised the health of citizens of the state and called for the sustenance of the gesture.
Medical staff at the benefitting PHCs also lauded the governor and the SSA-SDGs, Dr. Ebiwari Wariowei, for providing the drugs and equipment which they noted was coming at the right time and assured the government that they would be used for the health benefits of all patients.
The distribution of drugs and equipment by the State SDGs Office will come to an end on Friday, August 5, 2022.
