A total of 4368 people from Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State are selected to have one 25kg bag of rice each as palliative to cushion the effect of oil subsidy removal
Flagging off the distribution exercise of the Northern Senatorial Zone of the State at the Katagum LG secretariat in Azare town yesterday, State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajiya Hajara Yakuba Wanka , in a short remarks, expressed her gratitude for the tremendous support the committee for the distribution got from the Ministry for Local Government Affairs, Katagum LG administration and Katagum Emirate Council.
Wanka enjoined the beneficiaries of the palliative to utilize it for the intended purposes and, also called on those that have not benefited from the rice palliative to be patient as according to her, “it is an ongoing exercise and there will be other segments of the palliative that will be targeted at those that have not benefited from this one”.
The Commissioner then reiterated the resolve of Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration in providing succor and relief to vulnerable and poorest of the poor citizens of Bauchi State.
Earlier in his welcome address, caretaker committee council chairman of Katagum LG, Alhaji Musa Ahmad Azare commended the meticulous planning done by the distribution committee and assured them of the LGs support in any capacity.
Musa Azare then expressed the LGs gratitude to Governor Bala Mohammed for always having the plight of vulnerable citizens of the state at heart.
The Chairman then cautioned the beneficiaries on the need to be orderly throughout the exercise.
In a goodwill message from Emir of Katagum, Alhaji Umar Faruk II, who was represented by the Sarkin Yakin Katagum, retired AIG Abubakar Muhammad, the Emir beseeched God to bless the palliative and the effort of Government in touching the lives of citizens in a positive manner.
Among the dignitaries that attended the event was Bauchi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Jalam and Religious and Community leaders.
Other dignitaries include Katagum LG APC Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Chinade and the APC Zonal Chairman , Katagum Senatorial Zone, Alhaji Gambo Rizzy.
High point of the event was the symbolic presentation of the palliative to beneficiaries by the Commissioner and other dignitaries.
