Bauchi Emirate Council has condemned in strong terms, the recent attack on the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu as well as the Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman by yet to be identified hoodlums in Tafawa Balewa.
The decision to condemn the incident was reached at the end of an emergency council meeting held on Tuesday at the Palace of the Emir of Bauchi attended by all the Chairmen of the seven Local Government Councils that make up the Emirate.
Recall that last Friday, the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass were attacked in Tafawa Balewa town by yet to be identified hoodlums in the violence that greeted the 21st anniversary of the late leader and crusader of the Sayawa People of Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of the state, Pa Peter Gonto.
Reading the outcome of the meeting to journalists at the Council Chambers of the Emirate, the Galadima of Bauchi, Surveyor Said Ibrahim Jahun, said, “It’s unfortunate in this modern era where peace is fragile in the state and indeed the nation, unpatriotic miscreants who do not wish the state well came out to disturb the peace and tranquillity we have been enjoying in the state by attacking the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass on their way to Bogoro Town to honour the invitation of the convener of the event.”
According to him, “Several attempts were made by the miscreants on the convoys, where cars were smashed, including the spare car of the Emir of Bauchi and official car of the Emir of Dass, which forced the Emirs to turn back in order to avoid loss of lives and properties.”
He added, “In view of the above, the Council has condemned in totality the incident as it was barbaric, provocative, misleading and therefore call on the State Government to, as a matter of urgency, constitute a strong committee of investigation to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book.
“Finally, the Council is appealing to the State Government to request the Federal Government to further investigate the matter in order to prevent at recurrence of this dastardly act anywhere in future.”
The Council then expressed its appreciation to the Government of Bauchi State under the leadership of the Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for the unconditional services to the people of Bauchi on security, developmental projects, among others.
The Council resolved that Peace and Unity, being a prerequisite for any meaningful development, therefore, “We consider this occasion (21st Memorial Anniversary of Baba Gonto) will foster unity and cohesion among our communities.”
