In a thrilling Clasico that lived up to the hype, Barcelona triumphed 5-2 over Real Madrid to secure the Spanish Super Cup at the King Abdullah Sport City in Jeddah on Sunday.
This victory, which marked the first trophy of Hansi Flick’s managerial tenure, saw Barcelona dismantle their bitter rivals in style.
Real Madrid got off to an early lead through Kylian Mbappe’s brilliant strike on the counter in the 5th minute. But Barcelona quickly responded with an attacking onslaught.
Lamine Yamal, the 17-year-old sensation, leveled the score with a fine individual effort, reminiscent of Barcelona great Lionel Messi.
Moments later, Robert Lewandowski converted a penalty after Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga fouled Gavi in the box, giving Barcelona a 2-1 lead.
The Blaugrana weren’t done yet. Raphinha scored a header off a precise cross from Jules Kounde before adding a second in the second half, finishing a swift counter with a composed dribble and shot.
Alejandro Balde also found the net, capping off a free-flowing team move before halftime to put Barcelona 4-1 ahead.
Madrid’s hopes were dealt another blow when Wojciech Szczesny was sent off after bringing down Mbappe outside the box.
Despite having a man advantage, Real Madrid struggled to capitalize, and Barcelona’s dominance continued. Raphinha’s fifth goal of the match sealed the deal, making it 5-1.
Madrid briefly pulled one back with Rodrygo’s free-kick past Inaki Pena, who replaced Szczesny in goal.
But it was clear that Barcelona had already taken control of the game.
Late efforts from Mbappe and Jude Bellingham were thwarted by some resolute defending, including a crucial tackle by Kounde.
With this commanding win, Barcelona secured their 15th Spanish Super Cup title, further cementing their dominance in Spanish football and sending a strong message to their rivals ahead of the rest of the season.
