Ayra Starr, Tems dominate top Afrobeats crossover hits in first half of 2024

In 2024, Nigerian mainstream music continues its global rise.

Spotify has released its Global Impact List in Nigeria, highlighting the top 30 Nigerian tracks with the most significant global impact on the platform during the first half of the year. These tracks, released between January 1 and June 30, have garnered the highest number of listens from outside Nigeria.

Female artists like Ayra Starr and Tems are at the forefront, with their recent album releases dominating the top spots.

The list also emphasizes the prominence of international collaborations, with eight out of the top ten tracks featuring partnerships with global superstars.

Collaborations such as Pheelz with Usher and Burna Boy with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin illustrate the cross-cultural appeal and expanding global influence of Nigerian music.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, remarked, “Nigerian music, especially Afrobeats, has captivated global audiences with its infectious rhythms, compelling storytelling, and innovative sound fusions. Its ability to transcend cultural and geographical boundaries is truly remarkable. At Spotify, we are thrilled to witness and support the continued evolution of this vibrant scene.”

The hit songs on the list highlight the ongoing ascent of Nigerian music, which continues to reach new listeners worldwide through collaborations and social media popularity.
