Two former Vice Presidents of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, on Friday paid a courtesy visit to former Minister of Interior and ex-Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, at his country home in Ilesa, Osun State.
The visit came just hours before the coronation ceremony of the 49th Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, scheduled to take place later in the day.
Atiku confirmed the meeting via a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, where he shared a short video clip of the leaders sharing a light-hearted morning meal and exchanging pleasantries.
“Breakfast time at the residence of former Governor of Osun State, Engr Rauf Aregbesola,” he wrote in the caption.
While the exact purpose of the high-level visit remains unconfirmed, the gathering has attracted wide public attention, with many observers suggesting a potential political undertone.
Present to welcome the distinguished guests were key figures from Aregbesola’s political circle, including former APC Chairman in Osun, Lowo Adebiyi; Chairman of the Omoluabi Progressives, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji; former Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti; and former Speaker of the Osun House of Assembly, Najeem Salaam.

In a separate post earlier in the day, Atiku also shared his arrival at Akure Airport, Ondo State, where he was received by local stakeholders ahead of the coronation ceremony.
“I was warmly received by stakeholders on arrival at the Akure Airport in Ondo State, ahead of the coronation of the 49th HRH Owa Obokun Adimula and Paramount Ruler of Ijesaland, Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup today,” he wrote.
The coronation is being held at the Obokungbusi Hall in Ilesa, with a grand reception scheduled at Ilesa Grammar School.
The presence of these prominent political figures at the event has sparked widespread speculation about future political alignments as Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.
Further updates from the coronation ceremony are expected as dignitaries continue to arrive in Ilesa.
