In Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria, suspected thugs on Monday disrupted the Peoples Democratic Party campaign train.
Shehu Sani, a former senator who represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District, tweeted about the situation.
He asserted that thugs armed with swords and machetes broke into the PDP rally’s location in Kaduna.
Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, also acknowledged the assault in messages on his social media accounts.
Atiku wrote, “I have just received emergency reports of attacks on PDP supporters by thugs sponsored to scuttle the ongoing PDP campaign rally in Kaduna State. This is undemocratic and against the Peace Accord all parties signed up for just a few weeks ago.
“I urge President Muhammadu Buhari to call on all parties to call their supporters and members to order and to ensure that campaigns, just as with the elections themselves, are kept free, fair, and safe.”
At the time this report was filed it was not known if there were casualties from the attack.
Recall that supporters of the APC and PDP on Saturday clashed at a rally organised by the PDP in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
According to police in the state, the clash led to the death of one person and left no fewer than 18 others injured.
