…dismisses suit seeking to stop lawmakers’ probe
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Tuesday, ordered the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Danladi Umar, to appear before the Senate over an assault on a private security guard, Clement Sagwak, last year in Abuja.
Umar had been summoned by the Senate to appear before it over the March 29, 2021 assault on the guard at the Banex Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja.
The CCT chairman had reportedly assaulted the guard for directing him to park his vehicle properly.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, while delivering judgement on Tuesday held that as a public officer administering the law, the CCT boss is answerable to the Senate on issues bordering on moral standards and conduct.
The court ruled that Umar’s suit seeking to stop the Senate’s probe of the incident lacked merit and consequently dismissed it.
