The 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke has arrested a 73-year-old suspected bandit informant, Alhaji Buba Maru, during a clearance operation in Bakin Dutse, Ardo-Kola Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the brigade, announced the arrest in a statement released on Tuesday in Jalingo.
The operation, aimed at dismantling criminal hideouts, ensuring safe harvests, and preparing for the festive season, began on Sunday under the leadership of Brigade Commander Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa.
“Troops discovered several hideouts and arrested Maru, accused of allocating land to bandits for their criminal activities,” the statement read.
The clearance efforts targeted bandit flashpoints in the Bakin Dutse Mountains in Sunkani and extended to Kona and Lau Mountains.
On Monday, operations moved into Yorro and Zing LGAs, clearing additional camps and high-risk zones.
Oni confirmed that Maru is being investigated and will be handed over to another security agency for prosecution.
He also noted that the operation has significantly neutralised threats in the area.
The Brigade Commander visited the chairmen of affected local governments to reinforce the Army’s commitment to securing the region.
“The Army is dedicated to enabling farmers to harvest their crops without fear and ensuring residents can enjoy a peaceful festive season,” Uwa assured.
Local government leaders commended the 6 Brigade for its proactive efforts, stating that the operations have restored confidence and allowed residents to sleep peacefully.
