. Overrules consensus candidacy, tells aspirants to prepare for elective primaries
Ahead of next Monday’s presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress, President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday threw his weight behind the emergence of a Southern presidential candidate for the ruling party.
Buhari was said to have consented to the South producing the APC presidential flagbearer.
Buhari made his position known during his meeting with all the APC presidential aspirants in Abuja.
The President also reportedly directed that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) caucus of the should produce the APC’s presidential flagbearer for the 2023 presidential election.
Buhari also told APC governors and the presidential aspirants to prepare for elective primaries and ruled out the possibility of a consensus candidate.
It was learnt some of the APC presidential aspirants at the meeting, there and then, announced their withdrawal from next Monday’s presidential primary election.
