The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has bemoaned the huge economic losses recorded by residents of the state in compliance with the sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Prof. Soludo also called on those spilling blood in the state to have a rethink as violence and killings aren’t the cultural identity of the Igbo.
The APGA candidate was speaking at an enlarged meeting with Anambra State Elders and Stakeholders Forum, and Forum of Heads of Broadcast Media Stations in the state.
He said that the state’s economy lost an estimated N19.6 billion every time the sit-at-home directive is enforced in the state.
Prof. Soludo while calling on Ndi Anambra to be watchful, praised the outstanding achievements of Governor Willie Obiano, who has delivered legacy projects to Ndi Anambra including the Anambra International Airport, the International Convention Centre, Awka and the Awka Stadium. He said the governor has done well despite overseeing two recessions and dwindling federal allocations, adding that “Gov. Obiano brought life back to the state by restoring security of lives and properties. Before now, our people performed traditional marriages outside the state. But now, celebrations are done within the state.
“Anambra is an estate and very proud of its leadership since the creation of the state, especially the past two APGA governors. Former Governor Peter Obi interpreted the blueprint of APGA and Gov. Obiano projected the blueprint to the world.
“Gov. Obiano has given Anambra a platform to soar, irrespective of COVID-19 and economic meltdown. Anambra is the land of opportunity to attract the world and the airport is a formidable platform to get to the world.”
