…accuses ex-transportation Minister of lies, hidden wealth, hypocrisy
A new political storm has erupted as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, launched a blistering attack on his predecessor and former ally, Rotimi Amaechi, describing him as a hypocrite, deceiver, and a man battling “spiritual problems.”
In a searing interview aired Friday night on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Wike did not hold back, recounting years of betrayal, hidden wealth, and near-death political sacrifices made to see Amaechi become Rivers State governor in 2007.
“I’m not a bush man; my background is not like Amaechi’s. He was Speaker for 8 years, Governor for 8 years, yet says he owns nothing. Amaechi has a spiritual problem,” Wike declared.
The FCT Minister also accused Amaechi of pretending to live modestly while secretly owning choice properties in Abuja’s elite Guzape district and Port Harcourt GRA, daring anyone to verify the claims.
“You can’t be a poor man and own all these. His house in GRA speaks volumes.”
Wike, visibly emotional at points, recounted how he personally smuggled Amaechi to Ghana during their 2007 political struggle, risking his life under Obasanjo’s presidency when Amaechi’s candidacy was disqualified by the PDP.
“That was the day I started wearing ‘Babanriga’. I told my wife to take our kids and pray for survival. If I didn’t return, it was God’s will. That’s what I did for Amaechi.”

He claimed Amaechi later attempted to sideline him, ignoring the sacrifices made and painting himself as a self-made political force.
Wike also took aim at Amaechi’s character, slamming his alleged desperation for power.
“A man who insults another man’s wife and hides his true wealth wants to be president? God forbid.”
He named prominent individuals — Marcus Nneji, Magnus Abe, Bello Adoke, and Idozu — as witnesses to his contributions, saying they could confirm his life’s savings went into ensuring Amaechi’s victory.
As the verbal face-off escalates between two of Rivers State’s most influential political titans, the 2027 elections loom large in the background — and this fresh feud is poised to fracture what remains of their former alliance.
