Senator Peter Nwaoboshi has defeated the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in his alleged N322 million money laundering trial.
This came as the Lagos State Federal High Court, Ikoyi, on Friday discharged and acquitted him of any wrongdoing.
Nwaoboshi currently reprents Delta North Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate.
The EFCC had in a two-count charge marked FHC/L/117C/18, accused the senator of committing the offence of money laundering between May and June 2014, in Lagos.
But the presiding judge in the matter, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, in his ruling held that the agency was unable to prove the elements of the offences for which it charged the lawmaker.
The judge went further to rule that “the prosecution’s case collapsed because bank officials were not called to testify.”
Consequently, the judge cleared Senator Nwaoboshi of all charges levelled against him by the anti-graft agency.
