Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), the umbrella body of the Yoruba self-determination groups led by Professor Banji Akintoye, has implored the Federal Government to respect the court ruling that awarded N20 billion damages in favour of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho
FirstNews had reported that Justice Ladiran Akintola of Oyo State High Court, on Friday awarded N20 billion against the Department of State Services (DSS), as damages for the illegal invasion of Igboho’s house on July 1 and damaging of his properties.
IOO, while reacting to the court ruling on Friday, via a statement by its Communications Secretary, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye, described the court judgment as the triumph of light and truth over gladiators of Illegalities.
It admonished the Federal Government to pay the awarded amount on behalf of the DSS in order to portray its respect for the rule of law.
It also appreciated the court for rea-affirming that self-determination is one of the fundamental human rights of the citizens that cannot be subjugated.
Part of the statement reads: “We thank the Judiciary for Re-affirming that Self-Determination is one of the fundamental human rights of the Citizens that cannot be subjugated.
“Our position is that this verdict symbolizes the triumph of light and truth over darkness. Ighoho represents the light and truth, while the Nigerian state stands for Illegalities.
“Our position now is that the Nigerian Government should be honorable by respecting the verdict of a court of competent jurisdiction. The #20billion damages ordered by court to be paid to Ighoho by the DSS should be paid with immediate effect in the interest of peace”.
