Governors of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu; Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, and Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, July 8, 2022, visited their Rivers State counterpart, Nyesom Wike, at his private residence in Porth Harcourt, for a closed-door meeting.
The reason the three South-West governors and are members of the ruling All Progress Congress visited Wike was not immediately known, but there are speculations that it may not be unconnected with the move to lure the Rivers State governor to the APC ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.
Wike is a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party. However, since he was defeated by former vice-president Atiku Abubakar in the party’s presidential election, and was also not selected as the vice-presidential candidate of the party, there have been speculations that the Rivers State governor is aggrieved.
It was recently reported that the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, met with Wike in France, but Tinubu’s media office has since described the reports as fake news.
