Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has been commended for the prompt release of funds for the execution of the NG-CARES programme in the state, thereby meeting the objectives of the programme.
The commendation was made by the General Manager, Gombe State Agency for Community and Social Development, (CSDA), Mallam Haruna Imam in a press statement signed by the the PRO of the Agency, Mrs Comfort Mukollo made available to newsmen in Gombe yesterday.
Imam was speaking during the community and Group project launch and presentation of the first tranche of cheques to 30 communities and women groups across the state.
He said that already, the State is in the second phase of the programme, a development he attributed to Inuwa Yahaya’s support to the CSDA and other NG-CARES platforms of the state to implement their activities.
The GM also said that work had begun in all the communities in their various areas of needs which include primary healthcare centres, classroom blocks, boreholes and nutrition interventions.
Comfort Mukollo said that during the programme launch, the Gombe State Coordinator Cares Unit Mr. Michael Habila explained that Nigeria’s COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) programme was a federal government intervention.
Michael Habila further said that the programme was supported by the World Bank to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on the poor and vulnerable, which the state further domesticated the programme to Gombe State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus(GO-CARES).
He then assured that all communities in the state will be reached and supported in order to make life meaningful for the people with the aim of mitigating the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The benefitting communities praised the government for the intervention through the programme saying that it will go a long way in making things easier for them.
