Yet to be ascertain number of residents were killed on Friday, in Wushishi Local Government Area of Niger State.
Many of the residents, drowned while trying to escape after bandits invaded their community.
Bandits, who came in large numbers started their operation at Akeri railway station where one resident was killed before continuing their raid to the fish market.
It was learnt that many traders ran to river side for safety to escape bandits onslaught
An eyewitness said, “Many of the residents who ran into the river drowned while trying to swim.
“Some of the villagers,who crossed for safety, met another group of bandits waiting for them at the river bank and began to shoot at them sporadically, killing many of them.”
The member representing Wushishi constituency in the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Bashir Lokogoma, confirmed the incident Lokogoma said: “Yes, Wushishi was under attack by bandits. There are casualties, but I can’t say how many because I am not on ground.”
Wushishi LGA Chairman, Alhaji Saidu Wushishi, as well as police in the state could not be reached as time of filing this report.
