Adeleke Boasts: My Pension Payment Legacy Outshines Predecessors

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has made a bold declaration about his administration’s commitment to retirees, revealing that over N47 billion in gratuities has been disbursed since he assumed office in November 2022.

This impressive figure eclipses the combined N34.4 billion paid by his predecessors, Rauf Aregbesola and Adegboyega Oyetola, across a span of 12 years.

During a bond certificate presentation worth N1.9 billion to contributory pensioners in Osogbo on the 25th of November, 2024, Governor Adeleke underscored his unwavering prioritization of retirees’ welfare.

He emphasized his administration’s exceptional achievements, stating that in less than two years, they had accomplished what past governments failed to achieve in over a decade a testament to his focus on social justice and equitable governance.

Breaking down the numbers, Governor Adeleke noted: “Former Governor Aregbesola’s payment as of 2018 totalled N17.15 billion, while former Governor Oyetola’s payment as of 2022 amounted to N17.25 billion. Together, the two administrations paid N34.4 billion over 12 years.

“In just two years, my administration has paid N22.67 billion for state pensions and N25 billion for local government pensions, bringing the total to over N47 billion.

“This means we have paid almost 70 per cent of what the previous APC administrations paid in 12 years, within just two years.”

Governor Adeleke reiterated his administration’s commitment to pension reforms, pledging to address personal grievances and overhaul the pension administration system.

“The well-being of our senior citizens remains at the core of our policies,” he affirmed.
“We are dedicated to ensuring pensioners are treated with the dignity and timeliness they deserve.”
