Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has raised concerns about Nigeria’s deteriorating economic situation, urging the Federal Government to take swift action to alleviate the growing hardship faced by citizens.
While receiving the leadership of the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights in Minna, General Abubakar highlighted the struggles many Nigerians are experiencing in affording basic necessities, pointing to rising costs in transportation, fuel, and school fees as key factors.
“The issue of transportation, fuel hike, school fees, and lack of funds is making life difficult for everyone,” General Abubakar lamented. He called for immediate government intervention to ease the burden on Nigerians.
In his address, General Abubakar suggested that a collaborative effort between the federal, state, and local governments is necessary to mitigate the economic crisis. He proposed that the government flood communities with food and sell it at reduced prices to help citizens cope with the rising cost of living.
The former leader’s remarks come at a time when inflation and fuel price hikes have significantly strained household incomes, with many Nigerians struggling to meet their daily needs.
Addressing the planned #Endbadgovernance protests, General Abubakar stressed the importance of maintaining peace during demonstrations. He advised protestors to avoid violence and looting, urging them to exercise their rights responsibly.
The leader of the Campaign for Democracy and Human Rights delegation, Comrade Abdullahi Jabi, had sought General Abubakar’s guidance and support in pressing the Federal Government to take decisive steps to combat economic hardship. He also advocated for the implementation of programs that promote active citizen participation in governance.
As Nigeria grapples with economic instability, General Abubakar’s call for action reflects the growing demand for government intervention to ease the pressure on struggling citizens.
