Kidnapped Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, has been set free by his abductors after paying an undisclosed amount of money as ransom.
Ofobruku, who was abducted at about 8pm on Saturday while driving out of his house in Asaba, the Delta State capital, was released on Monday by his kidnappers.
Secretary of the NLC in Delta State, Comrade Innocent Ofoyade, who confirmed the chairman’s release, said Ofobruku returned home on Monday night
He said, “Yes, we thank God that our chairman was released yesterday night. We are grateful to the state government, the police, vigilance groups and all those who show concerned.
“Ransom was paid but it is an undisclosed amount, and as I speak to you now, he is receiving treatment because he was injured in the process.”
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, also confirmed the NLC chairman’s release, but said he was not aware of payment of any ransom.
“We give glory to God for his release; to the best of my knowledge, no amount was paid,” he said.
