No fewer than 350 houses and large quantity of food items have been submerged and destroyed in flood in
three communities in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The state Emergency Management Agency’s spokesman, Abubakar Ghani, said the incident rendered several people in the area homeless.
Ghani said the incident, which occurred over the weekend, affected some villages, including Shiyar Ajiya, Makers and Runji.
Governor Aminu Tambuwal’s Special Adviser, who heads the agency, Alhaji Zabairu Magaji, said 250 houses were destroyed in the three communities.
Magaji blamed the flood on a recent downpour, noting that no life was lost during the disaster.
He, however, said several food items were also washed away by the flood.
He expressed sympathy with the people of the area, assuring them of the state government’s readiness to provide them relief materials as soon as possible.
Vice Chairman of the local government, Ibrahim Lawal, commended the state government for sympathizing and identifying with the flood victims.
Lawal appealed for timely provision of relief materials to the victims.
He said many of them had been rendered homeless and left without food to eat.
