Thirty abducted students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State and a teacher, kidnapped by bandits six months ago, have regained their freedom.
The state Governor Atiku Bagudu’s Adviser on Media, Yahaya Saraki, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Bandits kidnapped the students on June 17, 2021. Two of them were freed two weeks after while an undisclosed number of them remained in captivity.
However, the governor’s aide, on Saturday said 30 of the students had been freed but would undergo medical screening before they would be handed over to their respective families.
He said, “Today, Saturday 8th January 2022, 30 students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, and one teacher have arrived Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital, following their release.
“They shall undergo medical screening and support while being re-united with their families.”
Saraki appreciated “all security agencies and those who have helped in securing the release, while congratulating Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari, for the success.”
