Ben Peters, Abuja

The former presidential spokesperson, Dr. Reuben Abati, has weighed in on the ongoing Presidential Election Petition case, warning mischief makers to desist from misrepresenting and sensationalizing the statement made by President Bola Tinubu’s counsel, Mr. Wole Olanipekun, concerning the 25% votes from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The issue has generated significant public interest, particularly regarding the 25% votes in the FCT, but Abati said the statement by the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) should not be interpreted as a threat, but as an emphasis on the judiciary’s role in maintaining peace.

According to Mr. Olanipekun’s reference, Dr. Abati urged Nigerians to understand the arguments presented in the presidential election petition tribunal and the context in which they were made.

In his analysis on Monday, Dr. Abati, a highly respected and versatile journalist, said, “The judiciary’s duty is to uphold the rule of law and ensure a fair and just process. The statements made by Olanipekun should be analyzed within this framework to avoid misinterpretation and sensationalism.”

Abati said it is crucial to delve into the arguments presented by the parties involved in the Presidential Election Petition case. His remarks shed light on the key points raised and provide valuable context and that understanding the nuances of the arguments is essential for a fair assessment of the case.

Ultimately, the judiciary’s responsibility is to uphold the rule of law, ensure a peaceful environment, and deliver a just verdict based on the Constitution and relevant legal provisions.
