A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) designate, Nworka Chidi Benjamin, has got his name dropped by the Supreme Court 24 hours after his elevation.
The apex court said Benjamin was elevated in error.
This was contained in a statement it released through The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) on Friday.
The Supremes Court had on Thursday released a list of lawyers appointed as SANs designate.
But in the statement on Friday, LPPC Secretary and acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hajia Hajjo Sarki Bello, said a name on the list was not properly identified.
He explained that the actual appointee was “Osaka, Benjamin Nwora esq”.
He said that Nwora was wrongly identified in the Thursday’s list as “Nworka Chidi Benjamin esq,” and listed as number 43 on the list.
The statement read in part, “In the press release issued by this office yesterday, 21st October 2021 announcing the list of successful applicants for the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Nworka, Chidi Benjamin, Esq, listed as No 43 was mistakenly included in the list of advocate appointees.
“The actual successful applicant that ought to be in the said list is Osaka, Benjamin Nwora, Esq.
“The mix-up is highly regretted and we apologise to all persons affected by it.”
LPPC then announced that it had come up with a revised list in which the appointees were now listed in order of seniority, with Osaka Benjamin Nwora now listed as number 21.
