The Presidency has distanced itself from a growing number of 2027 campaign billboards featuring President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing the development as “premature” and a breach of electoral laws.
In a statement released on Sunday, April 13, by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the Presidency said it had observed “with dismay” the rising number of such billboards in major cities, especially Abuja and Kano.
“Worth noting is that some of these billboards with pictures of the President and his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, emblazoned on them are springing up in Abuja and Kano in particular,” the statement read.
While acknowledging the continued support of loyal followers across the country, the Presidency made it clear that President Tinubu and his deputy “do not support any campaign that breaches the laws of the land.”
“The electoral law that guides the conduct of elections and political campaigns forbids any form of campaign for the 2027 general elections,” the statement added.
Onanuga warned that such premature campaigning could “undermine the integrity of the electoral process and create unfair advantages.” He stressed that the President had not authorised any group or individual to promote his 2027 re-election ambition through any medium.

“Until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) sets the timetable for the 2027 elections, the President has not endorsed or authorised anyone or any group to mount a 2027 campaign for him through any media channel—be it Out-of-Home, print, digital, radio, or television,” the statement said.
The Presidency, therefore, urged those sponsoring the billboards to “cease immediately.”
It reiterated the administration’s current focus on governance, noting that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima remain “fully committed to delivering the ongoing task of nation-building they have set for themselves.”
“This commitment is evident in their focus on economic revitalisation, human capital development, infrastructural renewal, social investment, and national security,” the statement noted.
The Presidency concluded by assuring Nigerians that the President would communicate his political intentions at the appropriate time.
“When INEC signals that the processes for the 2027 elections can start, President Tinubu will duly inform Nigerians of his plans,” Onanuga stated.
