The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar has said that his quest to have a credible vice presidential with the potential of being his successor was the reason he picked Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as running mate.
Atiku made his choice of running mate public on Thursday, dropping Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who many have speculated was going to be his running mate.
There was also clamour by the South-East for Atiku to pick his running mate from the region.
The former Vice President, while unveiling Okowa as his running mate at the party’s headquarters, described the Delta State governor with the potential he sought for.
He said he finally found a running mate that understands the security challenges of the country, and has the ability to speak his mind on issues bothering the nation.
According to Atiku, Okowa possesses all qualities needed for the job of a vice president.
The PDP presidential candidate added that Okowa has done well in education and other sectors as governor of Delta State.
