Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, on Friday, joined the race for the 2023 presidency as he picked the expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the primaries for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It was learnt that Emefiele, on Friday morning, purchased the N100 million APC nomination and expression of interest forms from the party’s Organising Secretary at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.
Emefiele’s latest action confirmed speculations that the apex bank’s boss has been nursing the political ambition of succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan had in February 2014 appointed Emefiele as CBN governor, following the suspension of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the apex bank’s boss
President Buhari in 2019 reappointed Emefiele, making him the first incumbent CBN governor to be so reappointed in Nigeria’s history.
Prior to his appointment as CBN governor in 2014, Emefiele served as the managing director of Zenith Bank.
