Indications have emerged that the ruling All Progressives Congress may zero down to adopting a consensus candidate for the 2023 presidential contest against other parties.
This is coming as findings revealed that the leaders of the party have begun to reach out to individuals with the same ambition on the need to close ranks.
It was gathered that the party is being careful not to leave any chance which may be an advantage for the oppositions.
As a result of the development, former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, are planning to meet on the matter.
A source in the party told Punch that “Both Ashiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will soon meet to discuss issues relating to the 2023 election.”
He also revealed that “Leaders of the party are working on adopting a consensus presidential candidate, which has received presidential endorsement.”
Meanwhile, a source in Tinubu’s camp in Lagos said, “We have no problem with Osinbajo, he is a man of integrity. He will not betray Asiwaju. They will meet and iron things out.”
Recall that the President’s Political Adviser, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, recently denied reports of crisis between the two leaders.
According to him, “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are members of the same party. Osinbajo regards Tinubu as a respected leader of a political family to which he belongs and will therefore not for any reason endorse an endeavor that seeks to pitch them against each other.
“We are not unaware of some people who may want to foist a crack among our leaders. Such an attempt is abortive. Osinbajo and Tinubu’s relationship dates way back and it shall continue to wax strong.”
