SEUN SHOTUNDE, Abeokuta
Social Democratic Party in Ogun State has officially unveiled its new deputy governorship candidate, Aare Olugbenga Oluyemi.
Oluyemi will be running mate to Tony Ojesina, the governorship candidate of the party in the 2023 general elections in the state.
Chairman of the party in the state, Yinka Ola Williams, who said that Oluyemi was picked because of his credibility, noted that with such character, SDP remained the party to beat come 2023 elections.
He charged the people to vote for his party’s gubernatorial candidate and his new running mate, insisting that SDP is the only party that could deliver them from the hardships created by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Ola-Williams said, “We are confident that the party will win because as it is in Nigeria today, are we not tired? We are confident that the party will win because we are a credible alternative; even in Ogun State, people are tired of a government that cannot give us palliatives, are they going to take us from this doldrums?”
Ojesina, while commenting on his running mate, said that Oluyemi was the party’s choice because his dreams and aspirations were in line with his vision for Ogun State.
He said that if the people vote for him and he becomes the governor, he and Oluyemi would change the fortune of the state for better in the areas of power, infrastructure and industrialisation.
Ojesina said, “We are here to unveil our deputy governor that is going to partner with me to make Ogun State the state of our dreams.
“We have developmental revolution, the first one is industrial revolution. Ogun State has a lot of land mass, we have a lot of natural resources but we don’t have sufficient number of industries. We are going to partner with the private sector to bring an industrial base because Ogun is the industrial hub of the country.
“The next one is energy revolution; when we have industries and there is no power to run them. So, we are looking for what we call alternative energy which will include solar, hydro, we are going to bring that to support our industrial revolution, and the final one is infrastructural revolution.”
Earlier, Oluyemi said that he felt elated for being picked as the deputy governorship candidate to Ojesina, hinting that he would key into his principal’s dream of taking the state to a greater height.
