SEGUN BABATUNDE, Bauchi

Lawmakers from the North-East sub-region, under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC) have endorsed the 2023 presidential aspiration of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

Already, Bello has assured members of the conference of Nigerian State Legislatures that he would not disappoint them if elected as President in 2023.

Following the extraordinary meeting of the forum of APC State Legislators of the North- East Zone held at Hazibal Suite, Yelwa Road, Bauchi, on Friday, the members declared their total support for Bello’s presidential aspiration.

They also called on the leadership of the APC to zone the presidency to the Northern region of the country for fairness and equity.

The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting read, “That the State Assembly Legislators of the North East, who were elected by the people of the six (6) states that make up the Geo-political Zone hereby state that we agree to support our colleagues in the North Central to contest for the position of the president of Nigeria in 2023 – which is a position that the zone had hitherto been deprived of since Nigeria became independent in 1960.

“That the State Assembly Legislators of the North East Zone PASS a vote of confidence in the President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GFCR), for his sterling and cohesive leadership of Nigeria through thick and thin and urge him to be relentless in ensuring that he leaves Nigeria in 2023 a better place.

The communique further stated, “That the State Assembly Legislators of the North East Zone pass a vote of confidence in the Governor Mai Mala Buni Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee for its positively aggressive repositioning of our great party, the All Progressives Congress, and thank the Committee for its purposeful leadership, which has attracted Men and Women of goodwill into the party. The members further urge the Committee to do more.

“That the State Assembly Legislators of the North East Zone endorse and state their unalloyed and unshaken support for the aspiration of the young and ebullient Governor of Kogi State – Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, who has against all odds decided to take the bull by the horn, by aspiring to the office of the President of Nigeria come 2023.”

Meanwhile, Governor Bello has assured members of the conference of Nigeria State Legislatures that he would never disappoint them if elected as president in 2023.

The governor, who addressed lawmakers and women groups in Bauchi State virtually during the extra-ordinary meeting of the conference of Nigeria State Legislatures, North-East zone held at Hazibal Hotel, Bauchi, said the time was ripe for the youths to take over the country’s leadership.

According to him, “I am offering myself to aspire for the 2023 presidency under our party APC because the country deserved better and purposeful leadership from the Youths.”

Bello, who appreciated the North-East legislators for their endorsement of his 2023 presidential ambition, promised not to take their support for granted.

He said if elected as the next president, he would ensure good synergy between his administration, members of the National Assembly and members of the Conference of State Legislatures so as to assist him in providing the required leadership.

He said, “I sincerely want to appreciate and thank all for your wonderful service to your various states and to our father land and I want to appreciate you for your support to our great party the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and for service to your people.

“I want to express my appreciation for your endorsement for me to be the next president, insha Allah I will not disappoint you looking at my relationship with my speaker and members of Kogi State House of Assembly and I know when we get, we are going to have a more wonderful and robust relationship starting from 29, may 2023.”

The Kogi governor also observed that the task ahead was enormous for the future of the country and the party, pledging to consolidate on the gains and achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Sulaiman, said Governor Yahaya Bello had proved to be a courageous and bold individual who had shown capacity and will to deal with issues without any political, religious and tribal colouration.
