On Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary that had selected Dauda Lawal-Dare as the party’s candidate for governor in Zamfara State was declared invalid by the Federal High Court, sitting in Gusau, the state capital.
Additionally, PDP would not field any candidates for the state’s governorship election in 2023, according to Justice Aminu Bappa’s ruling.
The ruling was the second time court invalidated the PDP governorship primary in Zamfara.
In response to a lawsuit brought by Ibrahim Shehu and two other candidates questioning the legitimacy of the primary, the court invalidated the earlier primary that elected Lawal-Dare in September.
The court mandated a rerun, but Lawal-Dare won that one as well, which took place in September.
