Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, says if the right candidate is not elected as president in the 2023 general elections, the electorate should have themselves to blame.
Atiku stated that the Nigerian situation had reached a stage that the right crop of leaders must be given the opportunity to take over the reins of governance to save the country.
The PDP leading aspirant stated this while addressing party stakeholders in Calabar ahead of the May 28 2022 primaries of the party.
According to him, “History will judge the electorate if we fail to elect the right people to positions of power.
“I am ready, qualified, available and have the right credentials which reasons I have offered myself to intervene in the country’s situation.”
Atiku also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of failing woefully in providing security of lives and property and endangering the lives of the citizens.
Atiku boasted that he had the capacity, determination and courage to tackle insecurity across the country.
“The government of President (Muhammadu) Buhari has completely disappointed Nigerians in the area of security. The northern part of the country is the worst hit. The situation should no longer continue,” he said.
The former vice president noted that PDP could no longer afford to remain in opposition, adding that in the 2023 elections the party would reclaim both Cross River State and the country.
He promised that if eventually elected president, he would work with the National Assembly to restructure Nigeria.
Atiku also pledged to give more powers to both the state and local governments.
