The African Union Development Agency, AUDA-NEPAD, has demanded that the elections in Nigeria in 2023 be free of violence.
The National Coordinator/Chief Executive Officer of AUDA-NEPAD, Princess Gloria Akobundu, said this in an interaction with journalists in Abuja.
She claimed that the organization had started implementing a nationwide action plan for peaceful elections in all six political zones.
She said, “Buhari has promised free election, we should all support him. We have no other country except Nigeria.
“Do not allow personal interest or quest for whatever that won’t support the peace of this country to come to play during the 2023 election.
“Therefore, we need to join hands together to campaign for violent-free elections.”
The agency anticipates that the media will act professionally to prevent a breach of peace through their reporting before, during, and after next year’s general election, according to Akobundu.
As a result, she urged journalists to accurately report on the elections.
The head of AUDA-NEPAD added that the organization would help the president’s plan to lift 100 million poor Nigerians out of poverty in ten years as part of its mandate.
However, she noted that a key difficulty has been the lack of resources, particularly finance, as more Nigerians continue to live in poverty.
