No fewer than 18 passengers traveling in a bus were burnt beyond recognition in Gidan Kwano along Minna-Bida road in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State.
First news gathered that the tragic incident occurred at about 3am Sunday when an 18-seater bus rammed into a parked truck on the roadside before going up in flames.
“The burnt bus was said to be coming from Lagos and conveying passengers to either Kano or Sokoto. Although, the bus’ destination is unknown to us”, a source said.
He added, “The accident occurred while most people were asleep but people came to rescue them around 5am, when people started gathering at the scene.
“But the passengers and the bus had been burnt beyond recognition.”
However, two victims were rescued and taken to the IBB Hospital. One of them died while the other victim sustained serious burns and in critical condition.
Niger State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, was not available for comment.
He neither picked calls nor reply to messages.
