…as Tinubu meets them Monday
. Invitations already sent out to opposition Senators, Reps-elect
Ahead of the proclamation of the 10th National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu will, on Monday, meet with opposition senators and House of Representatives members.
The meetings, it was learnt, may not be unconnected to smoothening the rough edges regarding the the process of electing the leadership of both chambers of the National Assembly.
According to an invitation to the opposition senators and members-elect, while President Tinubu will meet with senators by 3pm, he will also host the members of the House of Representatives by 5pm same day.
The invitation, signed by the Permanent Secretary, State House, Tijani Umar, on behalf of the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, enjoined the lawmakers to be punctual at the meeting with the President and submit ahead their list for security clearance.
Ruling All Progressives Congress has continued moves to ensure that the election of a new Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives followed the guidelines it set on zoning arrangements.
APC had announced the endorsement of Senator Godswill Akpabio from South-South for Senate President, Senator Jubrin Barau from North-West for Deputy Senate President, Tajudeen Abass, North-West for Speaker, House of Representatives and Benjamin Kanu, South-East, for Deputy Speaker.
But some APC lawmakers have continued to express their opposition to the proposed zoning formula, vowing to pursue their own ambitions to contest the various positions for which the party had already announced its anointed candidates.
