The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the invalidation of Certificates of National Service for ninety-nine individuals, along with two others granted exemption, who were fraudulently mobilised from the University of Calabar between the 2021 and 2023 service years.
In a statement issued on Monday by the NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, the scheme disclosed that the public should be vigilant and verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates. The NYSC urged employers and other stakeholders to ensure the legitimacy of the certificates presented to them by potential employees.
“This is to inform members of the public that the under-listed ninety-nine (99) individuals, along with two (2) others granted an exemption, were fraudulently mobilised by the University of Calabar for National Service during 2021, 2022, and 2023 NYSC Service Years,” the statement read.
The NYSC reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the National Service by ensuring that only qualified individuals are issued Certificates of National Service. The management emphasized that individuals from unaccredited universities would not be recognized.
“The Management of the National Youth Service Corps hereby reiterates its strong commitment to ensuring that unqualified Nigerian youths, whether locally or foreign-trained, especially those purported to have graduated from unaccredited universities, are not recognised, and that only qualified persons are issued NYSC Certificates of National Service,” the statement continued.
The NYSC has called on Corps Employers, Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, Corporate and Religious Organisations, Multi-National Companies, Corps Producing Institutions, and other stakeholders to take prompt action based on this information.
Additionally, the public is encouraged to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates, exemption, and exclusion letters through the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
The NYSC’s action underscores its dedication to upholding the standards of the National Service program and ensuring that fraudulent practices are swiftly addressed.
